How do I test a grill/oven ambient air Thermometer?

It looks like the thermometer you purchased should tell you the surface of your grill. I would get your barbecue warmed up to your favorite setting and then move it around on your grill. This is because a barbecue can have slightly different temperatures over the entire grill. I know with my barbecue the left side is hotter than the right side.
